…Two full weeks had passed, and the storm showed no sign of weakening. No one had seen the sun, moon, or the stars for many days… (Acts 27:20)

What do we do when the storms of life overwhelm us? When we haven’t seen the sun, moon or stars for days? Should we give up hope? Where is God in our impossible situations? Invite a friend and join us as we take a closer look at our own dangerous journeys.

Weekly Elements

A Dangerous Journey - Week 1 Audio - Encountering Jesus

In Galatians 1:8-24, Paul describes a genuine encounter with Jesus.  An encounter with Jesus is objective and subjective; objective because it must be perfectly consistent with the Gospel; subjective because it is a personally felt experience.  It is the result of God’s pursuit of you and not your pursuit of God.  An encounter with Jesus endures even when you are alone, separated from the Christian community.  It changes the lives of others.

A Dangerous Journey - Week 2 Audio - You Can't Please Everyone

Are you a people pleaser? Do you make decisions in an effort to make everyone happy? The truth is that we will never be able to please everyone or make everyone happy. We were not created to be people pleasers but instead designed to live for an audience of One, God. The spiritual enemy often tries to convince us otherwise leading to fear of rejection, difficulty expressing feelings, not handling criticism well, and having a difficult time saying no.

A Dangerous Journey - Week 3 Audio - Alert Living

Where is God in all this? A question we’ve all asked at some point in our lives. In the turmoil and sadness of the recent Colorado movie theatre shooting, many may have asked this very question. We live in a world of terrible sin but we cannot blame it on God. He works in all things – tragic and joyous.

In the midst of tragedy we are reminded that we are not of this world. We are not citizens of this earth but citizens of Heaven.

A Dangerous Journey - Week 5 Audio - Unconquerable Joy

Surrender.  Kyle spoke a tribute to Lowell, a blind jazz musician and community leader in Kyle’s home town. Lowell surrenders himself to God and lives in the over flow.  In Philippians 1:12-26, St. Paul writes, imprisoned, chained to a guard, whatever happens, he is content and filled with joy.  Paul, faced with collapse, affirms surrender over self-reliance.  True surrender is ongoing.  Challenges come over a life time.

A Dangerous Journey - Week 6 Audio - The Gospel Changes Everything

Christians rejoice when they witness someone giving their life to Christ. The decision to allow Christ into your heart is one that will impact your life forever. Making the decision to follow Jesus could be considered a “dangerous journey”.  Allowing God’s will to be done in your life can lead you into some unexpected places.  Sometimes these places bring great joy, sometimes fear, and sometimes angst. Jesus offers us a trade; He offers us His righteousness in exchange for our sin. The gospel is good news about a battle that has already been won. We only need to accept the gift (2 Corinthians 5:21).

A Dangerous Journey - Week 7 Audio - The Spirit of Life

Relationships are not defined by the fear of condemnation. This is true of our relationship with Christ. Our direct connection with Jesus is more than reserving our place in Heaven. Life has many joys, upsets, fears, and triumphs. God experiences all of these with each of us because He lives within us. God is just not watching us from above. He is walking with us and guiding us. Remember this and let it set you free of the fear of condemnation – free to confess your sins, ask for forgiveness. Trust in God.

A Dangerous Journey - Week 8 Audio - Shipwrecked

Acts 27 is an account of Paul and Luke’s shipwreck. The story is both historical and metaphorical. It demonstrates how God’s actions and our actions are inextricably connected. Living through storms gives a person substance, weight. Let God use the storms to make you a person of substance. Trust Him. Know He is in control. Strive to learn and do His will without having to understand the point. God’s ability to redeem evil is independent on your ability to explain it.

A Dangerous Journey - Week 9 Audio - Epilogue

The lawless man in (2 Thessalonians 2:7), also called the antichrist(s) (1 john 2:18), is without law.  They oppose the heart of the Temple:  the Mercy Seat, its sacrificial love, and its principle, My Life for Yours.  The lawless man prefers the principle, Your Life for Mine.  The only way to overcome the lawless man in ourselves is to look at Jesus, Who gave His Life for ours.  As we are enveloped by His embrace, that will overcome the lawless man in us.
