Are you restless in your spirit, with a nagging sense that there must be something more? More to work and family and church? During this series, we will look at the amazing story of Abraham, a very ordinary man who became extraordinary for one pivotal reason: he pursued God in a life of obedient faith, not knowing where that decision would take him. He went All In. Will you?

This series is based on the book Magnificent Obsession by Anne Graham Lotz and uses the book as the framework for the series.

We recommend this excellent Video Teaser from Newspring Church (621 MB).

Weekly Elements

All In - Week 1 Audio - Leave Everything Behind

Sometimes God calls us to leave our comfort zone and go “All In” when it comes to following His will for our lives. God did that in Genesis when he called Abraham to leave his country and everything he knew to further a bigger plan. Abraham’s response to God’s call can teach us about trusting God, living by faith, and following Him despite our failures.

All In - Week 2 Audio - Entrust Everything Completely

How can we deal with the fears we face in life when we have been asked to go all in? How do we deal with the inevitable presence of doubt? And what about our fear of failing God and those around us? After a daring rescue mission and great show of bravery, Abraham finds himself struggling with fear and doubt, both in God and in himself. In response to these struggles, God engages in a conversation with Abraham that shows us how to move past fear and doubt in order to go all in.

All In - Week 3 Audio - Pursue Everything Patiently

In Genesis 16, Abraham and Sarah are 85 and 75 years old. They become impatient and try to hurry God’s promise of a son to Abraham by using Sarah’s servant, Hagar, as a surrogate mother. When we rush God’s agenda, it’s usually a mess. There are ways to clean it up. Stop blaming others for the consequences of our own impatience. Recognize the cultural expectations that contributed to our impatience. Be willing to repent of our impatience. Surrender to God’s Grace in order to redeem our impatience.

All In - Week 4 Audio - Cast Everything Out

Being “All In” for God doesn’t mean that struggles with sin will stop. Abraham struggled with lying on more than one occasion during his journey following God. However, he faced his sin head-on and believed that change was possible. His story is a great example for us when it comes to dealing with habitual sinning. Although it wasn’t easy, Abraham was able to break the cycle in his life and we can too.

All In - Week 5 Audio - Lay Everything Down

Genesis 22 recounts a call to unconditional surrender in order to test Abraham to uncover what really goes on in his heart. Although the story of Abraham sacrificing his son is particularly challenging for us to respond to today, it would not have alienated the original audience. Furthermore, we can make strong connections to our world today by reflecting on what we prize most in life because this is what God calls us to give up. Our culture tells us to put everything on the altars of pride, greed, success, pleasure, or comfort. As a result, we decide which altar consumes both our loved ones and us. This interchange on Mount Moriah is also a glimpse of what is to come; although God spares Abraham’s son, when the time comes He does not spare His own Son who is sacrificed for all of us. As we dig deeper into this event in Abraham’s life, ask yourself this question: is God calling you to bring something you love and value to Him so He can be your ultimate provision?

All In - Week 6 Audio - Pass Everything On

In Genesis 24, Abraham sends his oldest servant on an oath-bound mission to travel 500 miles to Abraham’s relatives to take a wife for his son, Isaac. Learn from the faithful servant’s adventure. Don’t let your excuses get in the way of what God wants you to do. When you don’t see God, He is still at work. Pursue God’s plan with patience. God, Abraham and the servant worked together to transfer Abraham’s faith to Isaac.
