Join us for nine practical principles that James, the brother of Christ, believed were important for the young Christian church, and that are equally important for us today.
We will look at the obstacles that get in the way of our duty and action for Christ; ways that prayer offered in faith will allow God to take care of our needs; how the crucible of trial enables us to experience something that we cannot experience any other time in our lives; and how we can learn God’s wisdom through prayer, scripture, and communicating with other people of faith.
James speaks of how we become preoccupied with money whether we have a lot of it or not much of it at all. He also says that the faithful remain free from the value system of the world, including money, power, and pleasure and the pursuit of them. James asks that we show our faith by what we do, because when the world sees our faith in action it draws others to authentic faith.
He speaks of how destructive words can be when we don’t use our words to bless God and others. James beseeches us to humble ourselves before the Lord and submit our desires, our hearts, our temptations, our futures, and our relationships to Him. He speaks about wealth without purpose, self-indulgent wealth, and accumulating wealth at the expense of others. And finally, he reminds us to share our pain and our sin with God and others and to love and help one another, because in this way we show the love that God has for us.
