The book of Joshua begins with the people of Israel gathered on the banks of the Jordan River, preparing to enter into the land that God promised long ago to Abraham and his descendants. Joshua has been here before–forty years earlier. He knows what life at the river’s edge is like and how frightening it can be to some people.
At some point in our lives, all of us find ourselves at the river’s edge. It’s that moment in life when we are face with a huge opportunity - an opportunity to experience god’s best. But life is scary at the river’s edge. There are so many unknowns about life on the other side of the river. It’s tempting just to settle for the perceived security of that with which we are most familiar.
In these six weeks we explore what it means to live at the river’s edge. We will look at the promises that god gives us. We will also look at the faith that God requires. The first three chapters of Joshua will be our guide.
