Move

God moves in every area of our lives to fortify our dependence on Him. He strengthens our resolve to trust Him through pivotal circumstances. He directs our faith as we increasingly anchor ourselves in Scripture. He stretches our faithfulness through our interactions with those around us. Through every season and circumstance that we call on the name of the Lord, He responds. God moves, not so we can have more of Him, but so we will move, and He may have more of us.

There is a great video on Vimeo called Move.

Weekly Elements

Move - Week 1 - Pivotal Circumstances

At the time of the Apostle Paul, Colossae, present day Turkey, was a center of exotic spiritual philosophies. Some strains rejected Christ out right. Other insidious sects endorsed twisted versions of the Gospels, contending additional rules and rituals were required for spiritual growth. They valued laws over love, and guilt over grace. Paul reminded the Church, they could already stand blameless before Christ. Philosophies that condemn those who Christ has redeemed are false.

Move - Week 2 - Sound Doctrine

Sound doctrine moves us to grow in our faith. By a person's doctrine, what he or she believes, everything rises and falls. In Colossians 1:15-20, Paul clarifies the doctrine of Who Jesus is. "All the fullness of God dwelt in Him… He is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything He might have the supremacy." If you follow Jesus, you can hold nothing back. Sound doctrine emboldens us with a confident trust in God to move from knowledge to action.

Move - Week 3 - Meaningful Relationships

Think about this – who played an intricate part in your walk in your faith? Now, consider this – is there someone out there, if asked the same question, would answer with your name? Every relationship we are involved in can and does affect our walk with Christ. Some of our relationships can have positive impacts while others can have negative impacts. People affect us through their actions and words and can change how we perceive our faith. On that same note, we also have the ability to affect others. At times we may feel "stuck" in our faith. Does this sound familiar? Maybe it is time to make yourself available, and allow Christ to use you in the lives of others. When you are working to help others in their journey, you are depending on God – you're calling out to Him and trusting Him to give you the wisdom and strength to be a positive impact on someone’s life. Colossians 3:13-14 "Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity."

Move - Week 4 - Thoughtful Study

Colossians 3:16 says "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly." Are you a well fed Christian? Do you depend on others to feed you? Are you waiting to be fed? Oftentimes it is so easy to depend on others – our pastor, friends, family, small group – to feed us spiritually when the word of God is literally an open book for us to read! In order to adequately grow in our faith, we have to be able to feed ourselves from God’s word. It can be easy to find yourself in that stagnant spot in your faith when you are depending on someone else to spiritually feed you. It is time to get some self discipline and use that time to feed you – time to "grow up" spiritually through scripture. Seek out opportunities and people to not just feed you but teach you how to learn God’s word independently. You will find yourself full in God’s word as your relationship with God grows through thoughtful study.

Move - Week 5 - Prayer-filled

The apostle Paul, in Colossians 4:2-3, teaches about prayer filled service. Prayer and service are inextricably connected. Pray for God’s Kingdom to come. Nurture a motive to advance the Kingdom. Watch for evidence of the Kingdom. Give thanks when you see God's Kingdom at work. Be in a yes position to participate in the mission God calls you. Pray for your mission. God will grow and strengthen your faith.
